Dal Makhni

Ingredients

  • 250g dry whole urad dal
  • 50g dry dark red kidney beans
  • 1kg tomatoes (10-11 plum tomatoes)
  • 2 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp grated garlic
  • 1 tbsp jeera
  • 2 bay leafs
  • 1 cinamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • 4 cardomon pods
  • 2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp kasoori methi
  • 5 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Instructions

  1. cook dal and rajma first in plain water
  2. heat ghee 1 tbsp, hing, jeera 1 tbsp, bay leaf, cinamon, 2 cloves, cardomon 4
  3. Then add grated ginger (2 tbsp) and garlic
  4. Then add yogurt
  5. Then add tomato puree
  6. red chili powder, kassori methi, salt, 1/2 tsp garam masala
  7. Bhuno, then add dal, and let it cook.
  8. Finish with 2 tbsp butter, and add yogurt if using
