Ingredients
Chutney
- 3/4 cup grated coconut (fresh/frozen)
- 2 tbsp chana dal (or gram or peanuts)
- 1/8 inch ginger piece
- 2 green chilies
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup water (as needed)
- 1/4 cup cilantro (optional)
- 1/2 tsp tamrind concentrate
Tadka
- 1 tsp oil (coconut oil preferred)
- 1 red chili broken
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 pinch asafoetida
Instructions
- Dry roast cumin seeds and chana dal
- Blend together coconut, ginger, cumin, chana dal, green chili
- Use as little water as possible
- Add tamrind to taste, and adjust salt as needed
- Then temper the chutney with the ingredients listed (add curry leaves and hing last).
